Apple Sauce

This Applesauce recipe is not only easy and healthy but it’s a delicious and versatile topping for desserts, filling for pies and apple crumble or to replace oil and sugar in baked goods! It can also be used in savoury dishes or just a tasty snack on its own!

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium apples
  • 1/2 – 1 tb lemon juice
  • 3 tb water
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (to taste)
  • pinch clove powder (to taste) (You can try other spices too!)

Method:

Chop the apples into small chunks (remove core but leave skin on).

Put all the ingredients into a saucepan and cook on med-high heat until it starts bubbling, then turn down to low heat and cook till tender with lid on pan. (Keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn).

It’s okay if the apples catch on the bottom a little as it fives the sauce a slightly caramel flavour – but don’t burn!

When apples are tender, remove from heat and cool a little, then blend till smooth (Add another tb of water if needed), or if you prefer a chunkier texture – mash with a spoon.

Cool and store in fridge.

*Use as a topping for desserts, filling for pies, cakes or apple crumble, or to replace oil or sugar in baked goods or drinks, or even in savoury dishes. It’s also nice on its own as a healthy snack!*
